Essential Driver Training (EDT) is the compulsory training programme for most first-time car learner drivers in Ireland. It consists of 12 structured lessons with an RSA Approved Driving Instructor and is designed to build safe driving skills, confidence and experience before the driving test. Some foreign-licence holders may qualify for a reduced six-lesson programme.
